I reviewed the second program for Summerfest, Kansas City's summer chamber music concert series. Though there were great performances across the board, the highlight for me was Thomas Albert's "Thirteen Ways."
REVIEW in KCMetropolis.org: Seven Against Thebes
I reviewed the 20th annual summer sunrise Greek play from Gorilla Theatre Productions. This year they performed Aeschylus' "Seven Against Thebes." Read it at KCMetropolis.org .
West 18th Street Fashion Show: A non-fashionista’s experience.
Themed "A Summer in Spain," the 11th annual West 18th Street Fashion Show was an eclectic mix of artistic endeavor and schticky accessories. Of the 18 designers, about half showed wearable creations, a few truly innovative collections, and an assortment of odd choices and lackluster finishes. I was both intrigued and annoyed by the model selection, since the... Continue Reading →
It’s not art
I have a few additional thoughts regarding “America: Now and Here”. I’ll admit that I never gave the visual art a fair shake, focusing more on the events, thinking I’d be back soon and check out what’s what. As such the various prints, paints, sculpture and collages worked more as backdrop, then as cultural or... Continue Reading →
REVIEW in KCStar: Simon Carrington Chamber Singers
I reviewed the Simon Carrington Chamber Singers at the performance at Grace and Holy Trinity Catholic Church for the Kansas City Star. Because the AC unit was making so much noise and ruining the ambiance of a cappella singing it was turned off (an aesthetic decision I supported), but man alive was it hot! Fortunately,... Some views from “America: Now and Here”
I want to recap a show that opened last month here in Kansas City. Well, more event than show, at least for my involvement and observation. “America: Now and Here” ran at the Leedy-Voulkos Art Center in the Crossroads over the course of May. The project was conceived and spearheaded by artist Eric Fischl. The prescribed... Continue Reading →

Bach's work, obviously, along with some jazz pieces, a few jazz-ish interpretations of Bach, and songs from Brazilian composer, Guinga. And you can read a review of my review... Continue Reading →
Inaugural grilling: lamb burgers
It is a very good thing to live with a very good cook. It also helps when, being pregnant, one's husband takes his provider role very seriously and creates delicious meals to feed his wife and child. It is not a good thing that our schedules are so disjunct that we can eat a meal, at home, together,... Continue Reading →
A thing of beauty
Since a portion of this blog is devoted to the perfect meal - le sandwich - I feel it is my duty to corral links and information in honor and celebration of that aforementioned item. Behold: Selleck Waterfall Sandwich.
REVIEW in KCMetropolis.org: “The 39 Steps” at American Heartland Theatre
I reviewed "The 39 Steps" at the American Heartland Theatre for KCMetropolis.org. This farcical adaption by Patrick Barlow took elements from the original novel and the Alfred Hitchcock thriller. The four person cast performed over 100 characters in a fast paced spy mystery full of slapstick humor. Read it here...
