Reviewing requires a weird set of skills (writing in the dark and deciphering scribbles are just two) and there is never enough space to write everything that’s pertinent to a performance, especially when you’re trying to make every word count, overnight, and then consider the idiom “haste makes waste.” No one reviews performances for the glory of it all, trust me.

I was chagrined to see that it doesn’t get easier with experience, necessarily. Music critic Greg Sandow reviewed a concert for The Washington Post and then wrote a more extensive take on his blog. Worth comparing the two.
